How to add power to your faith. The disciples of Jesus made a similar request: "Increase our faith!" (Luke 17:5). The answer of Jesus, in effect, was that it wasn't the bigness or largeness of faith that gets the job done; it's our attitude.
Later, the writer of the Book of Hebrews expounds on what faith is. This is what we will look at to know how to add power to your faith.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." -Heb 11:1 (NIV)
If faith is about attitude, then Hebrews 11:1 makes sense. Your outlook in life is what your life is going to be ("...being sure of what we hope for"). If your outlook in life is dark and dreary, then your life will become powerless and vulnerable.
Yet, if you put your hope in success and prosperity, then your life will grow in power. Thus, it's important to understand the second half of Hebrews 11:1 ("...and certain of what we do not see").
The word, 'see,' definitely speaks about the eyes; but 'vision' in Biblical sense doesn't always pertain to eyesight. Vision can come from what's already in the heart. The great men and women of the Bible accomplished great feats because of what was in their hearts and not what they physically saw.
What you see through your heart is more powerful than what you see through your eyes!
When the Bible tells us that faith is being "certain ... of what we do not see," it premises that faith draws power through what you see from the heart.
However, to have a powerful outlook in life that "sees" from the heart, you must have an object of focus. Continuing with the 11th chapter of Hebrews, we find this verse: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." -Heb 11:6 (NIV)
God, then, must be the focus of your faith. Faith begins and ends with your relationship with God. Faith is premised on the belief that he exists and that he rewards. In other words, faith is founded on the truth that God lives and moves. Because God is powerful, to believe that he lives and moves in power is to also believe that we can live and move in power. It's an awesome, provoking thought.
Is it possible? Indeed! This is the reason why God brought to us his son, Jesus Christ. The epitome of the kind of power available to mankind is seen in Jesus. Yet, we can't see this through our eyes, but through our hearts.
So, how to add power to your faith? Focus on God through his son, Jesus Christ. Let him build a positive attitide through his Word, the Bible ("...Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." -Rom 10:17).
Let positive attitude flood your heart and bring forth a powerful vision of the impossible being turned into the possible.
Then live it. You'll become a living dynamo of faith!
